Gen Y Blogger Review of 2009 and the Past Decade.

It had been an eventful decade for many people around the globe. Unlike any past financial crisis, this current global subprime mortgage crisis is comparable to a wide spread wild fire. This financial storm affects all age groups, income levels, industries and different regional economic markets. Some compare this global subprime mortgage crisis to Great Depression.

We can see fluctuating and depressing monthly economic data reported by business and financial news. Looking forward to 2010, it seems different economists have conflicting 2010 economic outlook projection. People on the main or high street across the globe is confused by the differences in 2010 economic prediction. The 2010 economic outlook ranges from both positive to cautious to negative economic sentimental outlooks.

We still need to move forward whether we are optimistic or pessimistic about 2010 economy recovery rate. – James Ang, The omniGens Blog – Make Life Simple .

We still need to move forward whether we are optimistic or pessimistic about 2010 economy recovery rate. I agree with many that the impact of current subprime mortgage crisis is of much great scale than any post-war financial crisis. For example, 1997 Asia Financial Crisis, 2000 Dot-com tech bubble burst and 2003 SARS Recession is nothing compare to this current recession.

I will share some lessons learnt from past financial recession:

2009 A Beacon of Hope in Humanitarian Global Community

Posted on December 28, 2009. Filed under: Gratitude, Life, Mental Health | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |

Kudos To Ordinary People Doing Extraordinary Things.

Many people are affected by the global subprime mortgage crisis [1] [2] [3], it is depressing to always see negative and conflicting economic view from various media platform [4] [5] [6]. For many, this current global recession offers no hope and motivation to move forward. Are there any reasons to celebrate life?

Let’s go back to 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake that happened on December 26, 2004. For this article, we just focus on the positive outcome of this nature’s force of massive destruction. Also, there is another 2009 Asia  Samoa Tsunami happened on September 29, 2009 .  We will focus on the humanitarian aspect [7] [8] of these natural disaster.

“It is worth noting that many are humble about their great courage of strength.” – James Ang, The omniGens Blog – Make Life Simple.

There is much media coverage on the 2004 South East Asia Tsunami’s destruction scale. This includes the lost of lives, economic destruction impact and displacement of families. Not much media coverage on the humanitarian part of this natural disaster.

Some media reports mention touching human stories. What touching and inspirational stuff worth to share? Well, we can see how complete strangers helping one another in this Mother Nature force of destruction event. Many risk their lives and limbs reaching out to those in needs.

For example, we can see people like Kenneth Elmes, 10-year-old Tilly Smith and Abby Wutzler risking their lives saving people. It is worth noting that many are humble about their great courage of strength. I agree that there are many unsung hero who choose to be anonymous. Some even suffer injuries, others lost their lives and their loved one in this mega scale incident.

Well, I am quite concerned on resources available to assist this group of people or the deceased families. Beside financial and medical assistance provided to those in needs, we need to focus on their emotional and mental state of mind. Through strong peer support [9] [10], most people can recover from physical injuries and financial crisis eventually. However mental conditions like grief, depression, loneliness and post trauma stress disorder or PTSD is not easy to diagnose and get treated.

We can look back to people, both deceased and living, who had touched our lives and inspires us to move forward. This is gratitude. The benefit of gratitude and hope is a powerful motivational energy that keeps us rational and upbeat [9] [10] . In short, gratitude and sense of hope help us become more positive.

Let’s share with us your hope and dream. Come on. Let’s move forward! Take one step at a time.

Consider Urban Farming and Green Alternative Energy Implementation.

From my previous article, we see how some countries such as Japan, Netherlands and United States (U.S) and their engineering solution to rising sea level issue. This includes their design proposal on both floating and offshore airport mega-structure. It features the advantages, disadvantages and limitation of floating airport. We have learnt of some possible civil engineering and architectural design case study solution to combat global warming and climate change.

Have we known of any missing links in floating airport feasibility study? Well, it just came to my mind that maybe we can include urban farmingurban vertical farming and next   generation alternative renewable energy power plants. It is just some green ideas suggested.

“In term of global warming and pollution, the phrase is a little green effort goes a long way” - James Ang, The omniGens Blog - Make Life Simple .

Well, I am not the first person to think of it. Frankly speaking, there is an urban farming community project near Lambert-St. Louis International Airport.  From documentary video on Kansai International Airport, we can see some empty space and open  flat-rooftop buildings . How about considering some urban farming, urban rooftop farming or even urban vertical farming models?

Thanks to many public education and effort from various media platforms, we get to know about how simple things can help to reduce global warming and environmental pollution. A frequently heard phrase is a little kindness goes a long way. In term of global warming and pollution, the phrase is a little green effort goes a long way.

Even a small household can have high electrical energy consumption. Imagine what it will be for mega-structures like airport and mega lifestyle malls? Many mega development projects do include environmental friendly and energy consumption reduction design features. We can still go further.

We can consider implement some green renewable power plants on such mega-structure projects. Yes, we do need to strike a balance between project cost, being environmental friendly, functionality, profitability, economical viable, business operational requirements and others.

For example, we need to consider the natural elements in selected project sites like earthquake, typhoon and hurricane. In the Kansai International Airport case study, we need to ensure any green renewable energy plant structure will not pose any safety hazard to airport buildings, users and commercial passenger jets.

Urban Vertical Farming Start-up Alternative cum Social Enterprise

How Hi-tech Urban Farming R&D and Social Enterprise Become A Winning Approach.

Whenever we think of Research and Development (R&D), we tend to think only post-graduate scientists and researchers working together. Rarely do we thinks of any non-university school leavers involvement. Well, the Japan first hi-tech urban underground farming project is an exception example. There can be other examples that I may not know of.

Let’s make life simple. For this article, we just focus on the  Japan urban underground farming concept example. In this Japanese business cum social enterprise case study, the  Pasona Group which is a Japanese temporary staffing recruitment agency creates an agricultural sector employment awareness. Why there is a need for such awareness? In Japan alone, the country is facing an ageing working population. Japanese agricultural workforce population is mostly make up of an ageing population.

In addition, there is a need to create employment for unemployed youth and non-degree school leavers. Before the current global subprime mortgage crisis , it used to be a general global trend that not many youths want to work in plantation fields. At the same time, we are facing a global food security crisis. Beside improving traditional soil-based farming output, we need to research for better alternative urban farming solutions.

Simple Everyday Green Ideas to Reduce Carbon Footprint

Posted on November 29, 2009. Filed under: Food security, Innovation, Peer Learning, Urban Farm, Vertical Farm | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |

How Simple and Effective Ways Can Reduce Carbon Footprint.

Whenever we think of carbon footprint reduction, most of us tend to think of Green hi-tech innovation and products. Some examples of hi-tech Green technologies innovation are wind-powered farm, solar-powered farms, heliostat (alternately known as solar thermal technology and solar hybrid power plant), geothermal power station and other next generation green alternative energy source. Perhaps, there is many media coverage on such alternative green fuel energy source.

For most people on the main street, we may think that this don’t concern us. After all, most of these alternative green fuel energy sources are still in infancy technologies development stages. Also, these hi-tech clean energy technologies can be quite costly for many average households. Some retail consumers may think of alternative-powered automobile like those autos powered by electric car and hybrid technology.

‘Thus, we create win – win situation in greenhouse gas emission reduction and reduce global warming.’

James Ang, The omniGens Blog – Make Life Simple.

In this current global subprime mortgage crisis, many people are either looking for jobs on full time basic or find their jobs very shaky . In this global recession, many people is looking ways to reduce their expenditure  in  this rising cost of living situation. Some may ask how can we reduce our carbon footprint without burning a hole in our pocket.

In What Ways Do The Rising Sea Level Affects Our Cost of Living.

Currently, many of us are affected by the global subprime mortgage crisis,. The aftermath of this  global financial crisis causes many unemployment, retrenchment [1] and industries wide restructuring. For the employed, they are worried about job insecurity, coping with more overtime and others. On the other hand, many are looking for jobs on full time basic.

Honestly speaking, not all will have the energy to care about global warming and climate change. It’s a true fact.

‘This global climate change solution needs collective effort from private sectors, public sector and individuals.’

James Ang, The omniGens Blog - Make Life Simple.

Let’s imagine this scenario. Base on climate change scientific study, the Himalayan glacier projects to melt completely by 2035. Beside the increase in sea level, the melted Himalayan glacier will flood many commercial agricultural fields or farmland. This worst case scenario will cause massive food crop destruction in countries around Himalayan region like China and India. What are the global warming impact from Arctic sea ice sheet, Antarctica and Greenland glacier fallout?

Global Warming and Rising Sea Level Possible Solution

Posted on December 15, 2009. Filed under: Flood control, Innovation, Peer Learning | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |

Architectural Structures Use to Cater Climate Change.

There is much hype about the climate change and global warming issues in this week. More specifically, the Copenhagen Conference generates many interests in this global climate change summit. From rising sea level to different environmental pollution to advanced clean energy alternative technologies, there is a wide range of discussion.

For the purpose of this article, we will just focus on rising sea level related topic. In my previous article, I did mention the Himalayan Glacier is projected by some climate change scientists to melt by 2035. Beside, we know the Arctic sea ice sheet, Antarctica and Greenland glaciers melting reach critical level.

“Some may ask what are the available solutions to global warming.”

James Ang, The omniGens Blog – Make Life Simple.

Some may ask what are the available solutions to global warming. In fact, this is a wide ranging research topic on global warming issue. Even if human race can reverse and stop the climate change trend, we need to research for rising sea level solutions. In this case, we will look into some possible architectural design solution. For this article, we will study on some urban architectural design structure. One on the urban floating platform construction and another urban flood control building structure.
