Updated on May 19, 2010.

In previous articles, we can see the potential, cost, business, and consumer consideration related to urban vertical farm concept. There are some cost reduction suggestions to make urban vertical farming implementation more business viable.

While researching for urban vertical farm, I came to know another available option. This is an alternative to urban vertical farming concept. It is the urban underground farming concept. In addition, urban underground farming is a working business model.  It is more like a working Japanese social enterprise project cum urban underground farm model. Many considered these urban underground farms as an agricultural revolution and solution.

In fact, Japan uses these advanced farming technologies for several years. This is Japan urban underground farming concept. The first Japanese urban underground farm is set up in 2005.  The first urban underground farm is called Pasona O2 which is located in the Otemachi Nomura Building in the Tokyo district of Otemachi. It is the brainchild of Pasona Group which is a Japanese temporary staffing recruitment agency.
